Edward Hopper, Morning Sun, 1952, oil on canvas, 71,4 cm × 101,9 cm.
From the early morning
Until late at night
I sit here in front of my window
Observing the sky.
With millions of questions going through my head:
When will this pass?
When will this end?
When will I be allowed to be free again?
I am sitting here isolated
With the sun shining into my empty room.
From my friends I am separated
But still spring is starting to bloom.
Even though I’m locked inside
The sun is shining with a light so bright.
I still enjoy its heat shining on my face
Soon we’ll be free, finally allowed to leave our place.
